the foudroyant strike
of the mantis shrimp's so fast
its snail meal's no chance!

This spectacular creature is the Peacock Mantis Shrimp. And in addition to its dazzling color display, its study by scientist Sheila Patek and colleagues produced a number of fascinating facts (and firsts). Watch the TED Talk video HERE.
And if you like this and "biomimicry," or don't know what that is, you'll really love Janine's Talk. I had the pleasure of taking an intensive with her at a Bioneer's conference a few years ago. It informs my design work.

The Word of the Day comes from Dictionary.com. Use the word in your own haiku and add to the comments.

Improve your vocabulary and your haiku skills at the same time! If you don't know the definition, it's below, but see if you can figure it out from the haiku and/or image.

Poet and designer, David Alan Foster has been experimenting with haiku since the '70s. He has inspired (or possibly offended) many with said experiments.
