matutinal? not.
I love the thought of sunrise
but rarely see it
Picture
Photo by Dennis Skogsbergh... view more of his work at his website here. It's astounding how he actually catches the autumnal colors of the trees in this Smoky Mountain portrait. Subtle beauty initially overshadowed by the striking sunrise flair.

Just wondering how certain words come to be, but too lazy to dig deep and find out. Like "matutinal." Why not just say "early" or "morning"?

DEFINITION of this 4-syllable adjective:
  1. Relating to or occurring in the morning; early.
  2. pertaining to or occurring in the morning; early in the day.

The Word of the Day comes from Dictionary.com. Use the word in your own haiku and add to the comments.

Improve your vocabulary and your haiku skills at the same time! If you don't know the definition, it's below, but see if you can figure it out from the haiku and/or image.

Poet and designer, David Alan Foster has been experimenting with haiku since the '70s. He has inspired (or possibly offended) many with said experiments.
