Many times we have enjoyed the spectacular alpenglow on the mountains in Yosemite. There, literally, is no place quite like Yosemite, and it's no wonder it's the most photographed place on Planet Earth. El Capitan is the largest granite block in the world, and is the birthplace of modern rock climbing. I remember the first time I saw El Cap from the road at its base. We saw lots of people squinting up at the 3000-foot mountain. We stopped to look but could see no climbers; then borrowed a pair of binoculars. Even through powerful lenses you could barely see the specks of climbers on the vast face. It is astounding anyone seriously considers

A young man named Alex Honnold is the Human Fly of climbing. He "free solos" some of the most difficult routes in less than two hours. If you want your mind totally blown... watch THIS. Gives new meaning to "perspective."

DEFINITION of this 3-syllable noun:
  1. a reddish glow often seen on the summits of mountains just before sunrise or just after sunset.

Improve your vocabulary and your haiku skills at the same time! If you don't know the definition, it's below, but see if you can figure it out from the haiku and/or image.

Poet and designer, David Alan Foster has been experimenting with haiku since the '70s. He has inspired (or possibly offended) many with said experiments.
