#281: skulduggery

his skulduggery
fearsome, cunning and long-lived
Blackbeard the Pirate
Picture
Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (the Pirate). Interesting read.

A colorful figure, literally and figuratively, cut quite a swath in his 38 years (1680-1718).

This fantastic painting — artist unknown to me — seems to capture the narrative about him better than any other I found.

Why do criminals and psychopaths reach such notoriety in infamy? The only recorded redeeming trait Blackbeard had apparently was not outright killing his captives and enemies.

What picture would be painted of today's pirates?
Much different!

DEFINITION of this 4-syllable noun:
  1. dishonorable proceedings; mean dishonesty or trickery: bribery, graft, and other such skulduggery.
  2. an instance of dishonest or deceitful behavior; trick.

Improve your vocabulary and your haiku skills at the same time! If you don't know the definition, it's below, but see if you can figure it out from the haiku and/or image.

Poet and designer, David Alan Foster has been experimenting with haiku since the '70s. He has inspired (or possibly offended) many with said experiments.
