The abuse these chaps face on a daily basis is incredible. 
I imagine they laugh themselves silly when they're off duty 
so they can be serious when they're on.

  1. like stone, especially in hardness; stony; rocky.
  2. Anatomy. noting or pertaining to the hard dense portion of the temporal bone, containing the 
    internal auditory organs; petrosal.
